Student Testimonials

Tell me a little about your background.
I have a Kinesiology degree and thus have a background in fitness, exercise and biomechanics.
Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?
Because I have a background in Kinesiology, I wanted a career that focused on fitness or science so the O.R. really appealed to me. My mom works for Pfizer, but I knew that I wanted to apply my biomechanics background and I didn?t want to work with drugs (pharmaceuticals).
How did you learn about Medical Sales College?
I found out about it through a family friend who knew people in the industry.
What ultimately made you decide to attend?
I was interviewing for other jobs outside the industry and I knew that it wasn?t what I wanted to do. No one cared about my Kinesiology background and I wanted to be able have intelligent conversations about things that were important to me.
Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.
My experience was interesting. You get to learn how to get along with people from all different backgrounds and work together even though you are in competition with one another which is the same as the O.R. environment. I enjoyed the people and my education.
What is the most valuable piece of information that you learned while attending MSC which ultimately helped you land your position?
I specifically used a profile of a surgeon who uses a competitor?s products and then showed how we could target him for our products instead.
Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?
During my interview I was told: ?We wouldn?t have considered you if you didn?t have MSC on your resume.? In fact, most of my interview was about MSC. If you want to get in to the industry, and not look like schmuck right away, go to MSC. I actually make other reps looks bad. There is a rep that I work with who has been at this for four years and he seems like he started in the industry yesterday. I have no idea how he still has a job.
How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?
I tried for a couple of months and responses were rare. When I did, I heard that because I didn?t have sales experience, hiring managers were afraid that I wouldn?t be able to communicate with surgeons what they needed me to.
Explain what your interview process was like.
I had several interviews and had to give a presentation on a partial knee replacement procedure versus one of our competitor?s products. For me, it was a very quick process.
What is your current job like?
I am at the hospital between 7:00am and 7:30am everyday and then spend the next twelve to fourteen hours there. I am currently an ASR and get to see twelve to fifteen cases of total joints, knees, hips and shoulders every day.
What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?
The School allowed me to be prepared for anything that comes my way. Regardless of the specialization, all the information is applicable to the field. The Sawbones labs are most beneficial because it gives you a hands-on idea of how to work with the instruments. Learning how to profile surgeons and procedures was helpful as well.
