Tell me a little about your background.

I had 15 years of experience as a muscular therapist, and decided to go back to school. I completed a degree in Molecular Biology/Biotechnology, and worked in a biochemistry lab for two years. I wanted an opportunity to use my strong science background in a medical sales position and decided to pursue medical/biotech sales.

Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?

I felt attending MSC would allow me the chance to break into a rewarding career that would utilize my educational background as well as my previous career experience.

How did you learn about Medical Sales College?

I found MSC through a friend. He put me in touch with a representative from the college and I received all the information I needed.

What ultimately made you decide to attend?

I knew that it could only help. I was determined to be in Medical Sales. I knew that the opportunity to surround myself with individuals with first hand experience of how this industry works could only better my chances. I had the biology and terminology down, but I needed to learn the sales end of things.

Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.

I found the entire staff to be personable and helpful. There was far more detail about the products. I knew nothing about devices or implants. The industry jargon alone was a lot to learn.

What is the most valuable piece of information that you learned while attending MSC which ultimately helped you land your position?

I brought along a few surgeon profiles to show that I?m truly interested in the customers and they actually knew all three surgeons. It was funny, they were current customers, they were impressed.

Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?

Regardless of ones background, it fills in the gaps by providing a broad overview of the different facets of the industry.

How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?

I had spent 6 months sending resumes and barely getting any responses. The biggest challenge for me was the fact I lacked sales experience. It was like trying to break through a brick wall.

Did you have any fears about attending the School? What were they?

I was a little worried that it was too good to be true. I was hesitant that this certification wouldn?t assist with breaking into the industry.

Explain what your interview process was like.

Pacific Medical received my resume from EliteMed Recruiting. My first interview was for a position as a rep for Distal Extremities. The interview went well with the DEX manager. He was impressed how much I knew about DEX plating systems in general. The Regional Sales Manager was also present for the interview, and saw that I had a Molecular Biology background and wanted to know everything I knew about Biologics. It turned out they were looking for a Biologics Specialist as well. Within the week, the Director of Sales interviewed me, and I went for a ride along with a rep to observe a Biologics case. I was then invited to meet the VP of Sales, and was offered the position of Regional Product Manager for Biologics.

What will you do in your new job?

I will assist 28 sales reps in the region to help them better understand and sell Arthrex?s biologic product lines.

What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?

How this industry works. I learned the role of the rep in the OR, and OR protocol. It was valuable to learn how reps work with departments such as Materials Management and Sterile Processing. It was very helpful to understand how to appropriately approach a surgeon and respect their time.
