Student Testimonials

Tell me a little about your background.
I graduated with a Bachelor?s Degree in Business-Leadership & Management in 2011 and upon graduation, joined the corporate world. My most recent position was in recruiting at Target Corporation in Minneapolis, MN. I was there for about 3 years.
Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?
I have always been interested in the medical field, but never pursued it in or after college. A few friends worked in the medical sales industry and I loved hearing about their work day and what they did. From listening to them, I knew it was something I wanted to pursue. The fact that I am in charge of my own success is what draws me to the industry the most.
How did you learn about Medical Sales College?
Randomly the topic of medical sales came up between myself and a friend who is a few years older than me. He mentioned that someone from our hometown went out to Colorado for a few months for a school that specializes in medical sales training. I was instantly intrigued and researched right away
What ultimately made you decide to attend?
In the back of my mind, I knew I really wanted to attend MSC, and Kim Smalley helped me greatly in my decision. She answered so many questions for me and put some of my worries at ease. I also had great support back home from my family who knew that I wanted to get into this industry. After a family member told me that it was only 6 weeks out of my entire life for something I really wanted to do to be happy, I was sold!!
Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.
From day one I knew I had made the right choice and I knew I would love training. In my spine class there was only 5 of us, me being the only girl. We became close very quickly and all could rely on each other, help each other out and study together. There was also a lot of us at Staybridge Suites, so it made it nice to know a familiar face and be able to have a common place to study. The course work was challenging and pushes you, but since it was a topic I enjoyed, it was easier to catch on. My teacher, Rebecca, was amazing! Everyone at the school has so much knowledge and experience in the industry and really helped to mold you into someone who could excel in the industry.
What is the most valuable piece of information that you learned while attending MSC which ultimately helped you land your position?
Understanding the anatomy of the spine and all of the cases and pathologies was very helpful, but the selling technique that is taught at MSC impressed the hiring managers the most. They loved the fact that I had done product analysis/competitive analysis and role play also. MSC taught us to ?ask for the job? at the end of interviews as well and it works!
Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?
MSC is the perfect stepping stone into the medical field. I had no related experience, but after MSC, was able to finally get the job that I wanted. Hiring managers love the fact that I invested in myself and this made them confident in me and my ability to perform and have success.
How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?
I tried to get into the industry for a few years. I would apply on and off to companies and never hear back or was told I did not have any experience in sales or the medical industry. I knew it was something I really wanted to do so it was frustrating not being able to find a way into the industry. Upon graduating from MSC, I landed a job in less than 2 months!
Did you have any fears about attending the School? What were they?
I was very skeptic at first about MSC. I wondered if it was ?real,? or could this school really get me into the industry I wanted. I also really wanted to attend in Colorado for a 6-week program, but was worried about leaving my family and friends, and I also had to quit my job and take the risk of not working for a while. I fell in love with Denver the second I arrived and after day one in class, I knew I made the PERFECT decision.
Explain what your interview process was like.
When I returned home from MSC, I had interviews within the first few weeks with about 3-4 different companies. My full time job became applying to positions and connecting with people on LinkedIn. It was a connection on LinkedIn that I made that was key and a month later, I had a job! Having MSC on my profile made people curious and want to chat with me.
What is your current job like?
I work as a 1099 for a distributor, so I have 4 different product lines that I am currently carrying (2 spine lines, surgical dressing and bone graft) and soon will add a few more products to my bag (foot/ankle, joint), so I have a lot of room for growth and potential and a lot to offer a surgeon. Being a 1099 and an independent contractor has been great so far!
What do you know now that you wish you had known before entering the industry/attending Medical Sales College?
I wish I would have found out about MSC sooner!
What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?
I don?t think I can pick just one thing. I have used my knowledge of the anatomy of the spine and pathologies, product analysis, selling technique and much more. It is a great feeling to be in a case or training and understand what you are hearing, even though you are the newbie!
