Tell me a little about your background.

I come from a commercial print manufacturing background. I?ve held numerous positions including production planner, customer service project manager and account executive. Understanding how one decision affects each department, being able to consider multiple points of view, and training myself to constantly assess the efficiencies in my movements have culminated to a set of skills that will ensure my success in medical devices.

Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?

Medical sales provide a multitude of opportunities in an environment that is constantly evolving. Performing meaningful work in a lucrative industry and being challenged to perform at my best each day drew me to this field.

How did you learn about Medical Sales College?

We have a family friend who attended MSC several years ago. He spoke very highly of the program and the value in attending.

What ultimately made you decide to attend?

I ultimately chose to attend MSC because I wanted to achieve my goal of becoming a Medical Device Sales Rep. This is such a difficult industry to broach, and while my sales experience was solid, I knew that investing in this program would provide me the knowledge and foundation needed to earn a position with a top company.

Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.

Training included 9 weeks online with two evening webex classrooms each week, weekly product research, quizzes and presentations. The tenth week was spent on campus at MSC where we were able to interact with the staff and faculty, prepare our final presentations, utilize some of the equipment and devices on saw bones, and complete our final exams and online profiles.

What is the most valuable piece of information that you learned while attending MSC which ultimately helped you land your position?

The most valuable skill I gained from attending MSC was the ability to perform and understand the industry research. Being able to thoroughly comprehend my employers? products and giving a confident presentation that was supported by outside evidence led to additional interview invitations and ultimately helped secure my dream job.

Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?

Medical Sales College offers the opportunity to truly prepare for a career in Medical Device Sales. If one is serious about working in this industry (and you absolutely must be if you are considering a career as a Medical Device Rep), MSC is the most valuable investment one can make. They prepare students for the interview process and beyond, and future employers appreciate the time and effort devoted to following this path.

How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?

I actually waited to apply for these positions until I was confident in my knowledge and ability to create the most impactful first impression. I did apply and was accepted to Medical Sales College two years prior to actually attending.

Explain what your interview process was like.

The interview process with my current employer started with a phone interview conducted by a Senior Placement Coordinator, then I met face to face with one of the hiring managers. This led to a second face-to-face interview with two of the hiring managers and the regional director where I was asked to present on their total knee device. After this meeting, I was invited to participate in their Gallup test. Once my scores were accepted from the personality test, I had a phone interview with my successor, met with her and observed a cadaver lab, and was finally invited back for one last interview with five of the area managers/ directors. I received and accepted an offer the next day.

What do you know now that you wish you had known before entering the industry/attending Medical Sales College?

I feel that I was very prepared for MSC and the process of finding the perfect opening after graduating. I would advise anyone considering MSC or just graduating to be patient. This is an investment that will change the course of your life, and finding the right opportunity with the right company will take more time and effort. Also, get used to it, because this industry demands consistent exertion towards a goal that may be more of a marathon than a sprint away.
