Tell me a little about your background.

I have a bachelor?s degree from Oregon State University. After that I was doing inside sales for a little over four years with a couple of start-ups.

Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?

The work itself seemed fun. Being in a OR and helping surgeons treat their patients was very intriguing. I've also always enjoyed and been good at sales, so it brought the two together. Having good friends in the industry who thoroughly enjoy it made it seem like a career choice I would be happy with as well.

How did you learn about Medical Sales College?

I knew someone who had attended MSC.

What ultimately made you decide to attend?

After applying and getting nowhere on my own, I decided I needed a ?short cut? to get into the industry. I didn't want to get a job doing outside sales somewhere else for a year plus, just to get the experience on my resume. Only to then switch careers again to med sales.

Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.

It's like a full-time job and school all in one. In the classroom from about 8-5. Studying nightly or preparing for presentations. It's a lot, but I was a lot more motivated to do this kind of coursework with a direct goal in sight.

Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?

MSC is great to put on your resume if you don't have a certain criteria that most employers are looking for in this field (i.e. outside sales experience, medical experience). It'll at least help to start the conversation with some employers.

How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?

About 7-8 months.

Please briefly explain your job interview process with your hiring company.

I interviewed with several companies over the span of two months after completing MSC. All of the companies I began talking with during the start of my MSC program. I had some very formal interviews with some companies, some more informal interviews with others. With Stryker I went on about 5 different interviews over two months but with Arthrex I had an interview one day, a team happy hour later that same day, and the next week they sent me an offer.

What do you know now that you wish you had known before entering the industry/attending Medical Sales College?

What interviewers are looking for from candidates in this industry.

What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?

Network.
