Tell me a little about your background.

I?m a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Health Science/Pre-Med emphasis. After graduating early from the University of Alabama, I spent time gaining clinical experience with Orthopedic Surgeons as a medical assistant, while working part-time as a personal trainer and bartender. My bachelor degrees have allowed me to study the importance of advocating for the patient and the best care, while educating at all levels in the medical field with strategic planning. My father is a Sports Medicine physician within a large Orthopedic group who taught me the rewards of having integrity and an honorable work ethic. I've not only grown up around clinical experience, but I've been professionally trained to work as a medical assistant along-side the surgeons and their teams/patients. Along with my extensive Pre-Med Science classes, I?m very experienced in medical terminology and human anatomy. I feel like this will be very beneficial in communicating with surgeons, staff, upper level management, and with being confident presenting new product information within the appropriate timeframe.

Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?

After graduating college and preparing to apply to medical school, I began shadowing Orthopedic surgeons. I developed a working and personal relationship with the staff and medical sales representatives. The medical sales representative is a key component to a successful surgery outcome. I love developing relationships with the surgeons, staff, and patients. After much thought, I decided being a medical sales representative would fit my self-motivated personality the best.

How did you learn about Medical Sales College?

The NuVasive medical sales rep that I was shadowing with mentioned that he had just hired an associate from Medical Sales College. He said she was the most prepared and knowledgeable candidate he had ever interviewed/hired. This specific rep kept recommending I attend an MSC course if I wanted to get into this profession.

What ultimately made you decide to attend?

The Medical Sales College was the exact Orthopedic Spine and Trauma training I NEEDED to pursue the specific field I wanted to represent in my career.

Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.

During my training experience, we covered a vast amount of detailed information in a short period of time. My instructors were very helpful and knowledgeable. In addition to the lectures and lessons, they gave practical, real-life advice for working as a medical rep. That in itself, was so valuable! I was impressed with all of my classmates, especially those who started the program with no previous medical knowledge. We all finished as excelled graduates who now know basic medical terminology, different pathologies, and the surgical procedures/technologies available to help better the patient's quality of life.

Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?

Someone should attend Medical Sales College if they are looking to be accepted into this field with a more knowledgeable understanding of each procedure, and the pathologies behind the patient being on the operating table.

Please briefly explain your job interview process with your hiring company.

Because of COVID-19, I was forced to reach out via LinkedIn to anyone and everyone I could connect with. I targeted territory managers and recruiters for my desired companies, while also "stalking" each career page on the company websites and applying to any position I could. It just so happened that the southeast Globus territory manager who I reached out to on LinkedIn was good friends with two of my references I had on my resume. He had previously worked with some of the NuVasive reps who I had shadowed before MSC. He immediately replied to my message, wanting to connect on a phone call. The introductory phone call went very well, and by the next week, I was meeting both the territory manager and the area director in person for my first interview. I impressed them both by showing my "MDRepTracker" and from profiling EACH Globus product/technology prior to this inperson interview. From there, it was clear they wanted me on their team, and the remainder of the hiring process went very quickly, via phone calls and two other dinner meetings with more Globus reps in Huntsville and Birmingham, AL. I was told my territory (Montgomery, AL) via phone, and was emailed my official hire letter to sign.

What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?

Our professors all had years of previous medical sales experience. I really appreciated all the real-life, valuable "do's" and "don'ts" when it came to working in this profession. Each instructor would give their own, personal stories to the class, so that we would be prepared to handle those same situations ethically and well, always being an advocate for the patients. MDRepTracker, the surgeon and product database where it was a part of our curriculum to profile different technologies in our field and to research different spine surgeons in our desired territories, helped me land my current job! My territory managers were so impressed at all the time and effort I had put into doing my research prior to my first interview.
