Tell me a little about your background.

I received my bachelor's degree in Integrative Physiology from CU Boulder, in 2018. Following graduation, I worked for a few different companies, all in the medical field, though primarily in regenerative medicine. My ultimate goal was to gain enough experience to allow me to break into the medical device field.

Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?

I have always been interested in medicine and science and had initially planned on attending PA school after graduating from CU; however, following graduation, I decided that I wasn't ready to go back to school. I found myself working in an OR where I was introduced to the medical device industry, I loved the idea of still getting to work in a clinical role without having to attend 2 more years of school.

How did you learn about Medical Sales College?

Google.

What ultimately made you decide to attend?

I decided to attend MSC after I lost my job due to COVID-19. I applied to 172 more jobs over the course of 3 months with no success and then decided that I was tired of waiting around and needed to take it one step further.

Describe your experience with Dynamic Consultative Sales training.

My sales trainer was great. He was very knowledgeable and even though the sales role-plays were uncomfortable for me, it helped a lot. I had also never given a presentation without any prompts before, so that was an eye-opening experience.

Describe your Career Development training experience.

My career development trainer was very helpful, I enjoyed all of the workshops that we did. It was very nice getting personalized feedback on our resumes, and other documents. I feel that the workshops, combined with his experience, as well as the interview tips will prove to be very useful.

What is the most valuable piece of information that you learned while attending MSC which ultimately helped you land your position?

That you will likely not get a job, simply by applying to jobs, you must seek out the opportunity. Nobody had ever shared that with me before, I was entirely unaware, but reaching out is in-fact how I landed my job.

Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?

Attending MSC prepared me to enter the field in a way that even my two years of prior experience in an OR, did not. You gain insight into the field and into the minds of surgeons. These are things you could not learn by doing research online, simply because you wouldn't even know where to begin in gaining this knowledge on your own.

How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?

I tried to break into the industry for two years before attending MSC. The experience was hard. I was a rep for a small hematological company and was vastly underprepared to be in an OR. I learned hard and fast that there's much more to it than just doing your job and maintaining sterility. I left that job because I didn't know how to interact with the OR staff or how to do anything outside of my very small scope. That experience did, however, open doors for me and it got me close to landing a job in the device industry several times, but it simply wasn't enough.

Please briefly explain your job interview process with your hiring company.

The interviewing process was quick, which I know is usually not the case. I emailed the owner of the distributorship and told him I was really interested in his company and gave him a brief overview of my background. He replied asking to set up a phone call. The call was brief and consisted mostly of asking me how I would succeed at the job. At the end of the interview, he asked me to make a target list of surgeons prior to our next meeting. Following that, I met with him in person to go over my target list and to further discuss the products and my compatibility with the company, I was offered the position at the end of the interview.
