Tell me a little about your background.

Former professional baseball player (Chicago White Sox), recently retired Firefighter in Germantown, TN. I was no longer able to be a firefighter due to an on the job injury (ruptured disc and complete transitional fracture) which caused me to have my L4 and L5 fused. I always wanted to be in the medical sales field but could never get in?until MSC.

Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?

I?ve always been drawn to just how fascinating the human body is, it?s truly an amazing thing. The kinesiology of the human body and general A&P are incredibly intriguing to me. Playing baseball my whole life, I had more injuries than I could count but with each injury I found myself learning increasingly about just how the body works and how to try and prevent the same injury from occurring again. That was the start for me. I knew that when I retired from professional baseball that the medical sales field was something I would really enjoy doing. Problem was that I could never get my foot in the door. I went on to coaching and giving private hitting and fielding lessons which allowed me to meet several influential individuals in the medical field, including sales. My parents who were sales reps would constantly tell me that I should be a medical sales rep and that I would kill it. They offered help and tried their best to get me a foot in the door but to no avail. HR doesn?t like to be told who to hire apparently. I went on with my life and decided that I wanted to try a different path in the medical field. I loved to help people and loved the medical side so what better fit than to be a firefighter/EMT-A. I loved everything about being a firefighter but, just like baseball, that life was taken away from me. Once again I was lost, searching for a way to get into the medical device industry. After a few months trying to even get my resume looked at by a device company and hearing nothing but the sound of crickets chirping, I found the answer via linked in. The Medical Sales College! Within a week, I was signed up and by the next week off to Denver to start my new life. Now here I am, back in San Antonio and loving my new career?the pay isn?t too bad either.

How did you learn about Medical Sales College?

My, now, wife and I were looking at LinkedIn profiles that we felt had a similar background to mine. Profiles where the individual was now in the device field. The closest one we found had a hyperlink to MSC. I clicked on it and that?s when everything changed for me.

What ultimately made you decide to attend?

The overwhelming amount of positive feedback I found when searching everything I could find out about it. After reading review after review and only finding one negative opinion (and we all know who that was) I came to the conclusion that this was the real deal. I knew it was going to be an investment in both time and finance but I felt it was just that?and investment. One that, if I worked hard enough at, would grant me a life my wife and I only dreamed about.

Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.

One word/name: Thiana
From day one of class her overwhelming enthusiasm and knowledge created a buzz of excitement for me as well as the rest of the class. She set the table and eased the tension of heading down a new and challenging (but very rewarding) path.

What is the most valuable piece of information that you learned while attending MSC which ultimately helped you land your position?

Once you have acquired weeks of device knowledge the placements services provider for MSC, EliteMed Recruiting comes in to talk to you about the interview process. It?s there that you should really pay attention. Scott does an AMAZING job in getting you prepared. He?s very good at his job and VERY well-liked by device companies. They trust his opinion wholeheartedly. However, he can only do so much. You must get out there and hunt for your meal ticket. Everything I learned from all the instructors payed its own part in the hiring process?ESPECIALLY the video! I can tell you how many hiring managers called me saying how much the enjoyed my video. How excited they were to sit down and speak with me about the potential of me working with them. To be sought after again was a very exciting time. It reminded me of what I felt like when I was heavily recruited and sought after when I was in high school and college!

Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?

Opportunity! Opportunity that you won?t find anywhere else on the planet! Everyone at the college is there for one reason?to get you prepared to be the best in the field. When you graduate you already have a huge advantage! You not only know about devices and the intricacies of each company?s technology but you have one of the most sought after Sales Instructors in the industry teaching you just how to become unstoppable. What would take years of trial and error is learned in a matter of weeks with this course. Jim Rogers is the best at what he does!

How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?

Over 10 years! I would explain my experience in that time as 10 years of banging my head against a wall. A constant headache of frustration and disappointment. In all that time, I never even received one email response back from anyone that I applied with. I paid, several different times, to have a ?professional? rewrite my resume to make me more appealing to device companies?talk about a worthless investment.

Did you have any fears about attending the School? What were they?

No, none. I was elated to finally find, what looked to be, a way into a career that I had always wanted to be in. I could hardly wait to get on with the opportunity to be part of something so great. I was set up to start the next month but I requested, if possible, to start in the next available class.

What is your current job like?

It?s amazing! I love working for an established company that has the devise everyone wants. The people I work with are very supportive and knowledgeable. They care about you and will do whatever it takes to help you succeed. I look forward to each day I get to go into an OR!

What do you know now that you wish you had known before entering the industry/attending Medical Sales College?

I don?t know, it?s not like I?ve had a situation where I was like ?damn! I wish I would have known that!? MSC, does a fantastic job at preparing you for this field. If there comes a day when I need help with a certain situation or advice about ?how to? I know that I can simply pick up the phone and call any one of the staff at MSC for help.

Personal Testimony

MSC is the ONLY reason I was ever looked at for a medical sales position. When I finished playing proball I figured I would have an upper hand. I tried for years and years to get into medical sales. I didn't receive so much as a bat of the eye from any medical sales company. Going to MSC completely changed my life.
