Tell me a little about your background.

Born and raised in Lubbock, TX, I graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. After graduating, I was the inventory and marketing manager at a local fine jewelry store. Five years later, I decided I wanted to find a career that would allow me higher growth potential. I was introduced to the medical sales industry by family and friends and knew this was the industry for me. After trying to break into the industry for a few months, a friend and Medical Sales College alumni introduced me to the school.

Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?

I am interested in Medical Sales because of the unlimited potential for personal and professional growth. In addition to this, I am drawn to the industry because of the great things it does to help better the lives of patients.

How did you learn about Medical Sales College?

Medical Sales College came up several times during my search for a career in medical sales. I was unsure about the school. I reached out to a friend from college who had recently graduated from MSC and just received a job offer. Niki had nothing but great things to say and sold me on the school.

What ultimately made you decide to attend?

The recommendation I received from former graduate Niki DeHoyos.

Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.

Having been out of school for five years, I was nervous about going back for a course as intensive as those at MSC. Once we began though, I was relieved by the high level of knowledge from our professor as well as the support of others in class with me. It was still difficult, but I definitely gained a great knowledge of the industry I was about to enter.

What is the most valuable piece of information that you learned while attending MSC which ultimately helped you land your position?

HyPro is a spine distributor, so I could not use a lot of what I learned. However, my anatomy and biologics knowledge allowed me to understand the base of the industry. The vocabulary I gained from my course allowed me to be able to converse in a knowledgeable manner.

Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?

If you are coming into the industry without any real knowledge of it, Medical Sales College gives you the tools to start your career off five steps ahead of everyone else.

How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?

I tried to get into the industry for about five months before applying to MSC. It was a pretty brutal experience full of rejection.

Did you have any fears about attending the School? What were they?

Yes. I was not sure if the school could really help me get the job I wanted.

Explain what your interview process was like.

My first interview with HyPro Medical was immediately after graduation. First we spoke on the phone, and then Greg and I met face to face. The interviews went extremely well, however, the company was not going to start the position for at least three more months. Fast forward about two months and I reached out to Greg to check in on how things were going. He called me that night to extend a job offer.

What is your current job like?

I am mainly doing case coverage for now. I am about to begin my product training on other products offered by our distributorship so I can begin calling on surgeons.

What do you know now that you wish you had known before entering the industry/attending Medical Sales College?

The days start earlier than most and the hours can be long, but they are very rewarding. Your responsibility to the patient and the surgeon are extremely important.

What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?

The biologics and vocabulary are the most valuable training so far.
