Student Testimonials

Tell me a little about your background.
I am originally from South Jersey and I am currently living in Charlotte, NC. I went to High Point University in High Point, NC where I graduated in 2016 with a B.S. in Chemistry. After two years of working in a laboratory post-grad I wanted to get in Medical Device Sales. I was connected with recent graduates of MSC and after connecting with them and doing my own research I thought MSC would be a great opportunity for me!
Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?
Initially, I wanted to work in a lab as a cosmetic chemist. I was lucky enough to get that opportunity as a Research and Development chemist for a company called Virtue Labs where I helped develop and test a new hair care line. However, after a few years in that role I wanted something that would allow me to meet more people, get out of the lab and challenge myself even more! I thought medical sales would be the perfect role for me because it gave me all those things I was searching for in a career and the continuous advancements, technology, and science was fascinating to me.
How did you learn about Medical Sales College?
I was connected with a MSC grad that graduated from the program about 5 years ago. I spoke to her a lot about the program and she connected me with another more recent grad. After hearing about their experiences with MSC, their job search, and what the program did for them I knew it would be a great investment in my future.
What ultimately made you decide to attend?
Ultimately, after months of trying to get into medical device sales with no luck, I knew I needed something that would give me the skills and knowledge of the industry, how it works, and how to break into the industry. I knew research alone would not give that to me and I did not have any connections that would help me break into the industry. I knew MSC would be great for me and that is what ultimately made me decide to attend MSC.
Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.
My training was fantastic. I took the Orthobiologics course and absolutely loved it. I loved the opportunity I had to learn about biochemistry and how biologics work with the body. I also really enjoyed learning how to research and study the products. Not only did I learn how to understand the product and how it worked, I also learned how to point out the pros and cons of the products, how to make those features valuable to the surgeon, and how to use clinical literature to back up my claims and earn trust with the surgeon.
Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?
How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?
Over a year.
Please briefly explain your job interview process with your hiring company.
What is your current job like?
Right now I am in the training stage of my job. Since I am with a distributor there is no formal training. I work with a surgeon that the distributor I work with knows very well. I am able to go into the OR with him and learn about the surgeries and how the products are used in the surgeries. I am able to ask A LOT of questions and make sure I know not only the surgeries but also why the product is being used.
What do you know now that you wish you had known before entering the industry/attending Medical Sales College?
I think it is important to realize the hard work it will take to not only go through the program but the hard work it is going to take after to find a job! MSC gives you the skills necessary to be successful in the field but it is up to you to put in the work to find a job that is the best fit for you.
What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?
Networking! MSC taught me how to put myself out there. They taught me how to take my knowledge and training from the program and use it to my advantage. They also taught me how important it was not just to apply to jobs online but to network as much as possible to gain exposure. Without networking (mainly on LinkedIn) I would not have my position now.
