Tell me a little about your background.

I received my Pre-Med Bachelors Degree in Cellular, Molecular and Physiological Biology with a Minor in Psychology from Christopher Newport University. After graduating, I worked as a PSC Intern at MSC for a year before attending the ORT program.

Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?

I have always been drawn to the medical field, but after a medical device saved my life I became especially interested in this career path ? I wanted to give back. The more research I did on the industry, the more interested I became. It was really inspiring to see the impact medical devices has on individuals and the world as a whole, and I can personally attest to that impact.

How did you learn about Medical Sales College?

I originally found out about MSC online, and then realized I had an old friend who went through the program and had great success in her medical device career.

What ultimately made you decide to attend?

Being accepted into the internship program.

Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.

I had an overall great experience at MSC, from being an intern with the company to being a student. The material was challenging but definitely provided me with a strong foundation. I felt confident throughout the interview process, and could accurately answer most all of the questions I was asked ? it was definitely clear that I impressed the interviewers on my wealth of knowledge, which I can thank MSC for.

Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?

I think someone should attend Medical Sales College if they are serious about wanting to start a career in medical devices ? I truly believe attending MSC should be the first required step to entering the industry. The information and preparation students receive at MSC is unmatched compared to any company-specific training program. We learned everything one would possibly need to know to have a great foundation in the industry, from OR protocol, industry trends, how to evaluate a product and its competitors, how to make short and long sales calls? This information not only helps with navigating the interview process, but it also proves to hiring managers that MSC graduates are willing to invest the time and money into being successful their career ? they know they are interviewing a dedicated candidate the second they see MSC on a resume. My honest advice to anyone who wants to start a career in this industry is to attend MSC.

How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?

5 months ? I had a few interviews but nothing came of them.

Please briefly explain your job interview process with your hiring company.

For this position in particular, I was contacted by the hiring manager for a brief phone interview after he saw my ZeroFee profile. We later scheduled an in-person interview that lasted 2 hours, where I also presented my 30 page business plan. I then had to do two sales pitch role-plays with a Territory Sales Specialist in my neighboring territory, she also happened to be another MSC graduate. Finally, I had a phone interview with a Regional Manager in a different territory for a second opinion, and then I was offered the job.

What do you know now that you wish you had known before entering the industry/attending Medical Sales College?

I wish I would have started sooner ? I wish I would have applied to MSC the second I graduated college instead of waiting 5 months and interviewing with medical device companies. Looking back, I realize how unprepared I actually was for those interviews before MSC - I feel embarrassed by my lack of knowledge and training, and can only imagine what those interviewers thought of me! I didn?t know what I didn?t know, and I?m so thankful for MSC for providing me with such an amazing foundation to ultimately land my dream job.

What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?

The importance of persistence. There is such a fine line between being persistent and being annoying, and both my internship and student experience helped me learn to navigate that line. Not only did this help me in the interview process, but it will help me with building and maintaining relationships in the industry.
