Tell me a little about your background.

I graduated from the University of Nevada in August 2018 with a bachelor?s degree in Community Health Sciences. I knew that I wanted to break into the field fairly quickly and knew that if I wanted to do that I would have to have a leg up on my competition. My friend had attended the Medical Sales College a few years back, so I didn?t even hesitate to apply for the spine course once I was done with school.

Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?

I have always been interested in science and medicine and was introduced to the field through a friend. I loved that medical device sales allows you to care for patients from a different standpoint than the clinical setting.

How did you learn about Medical Sales College?

My friend attended MSC and had nothing but good things to say about the program.

What ultimately made you decide to attend?

Ultimately, I decided to attend MSC because I knew that I needed to stand out during interviews especially since I did not have any previous sales experience.

Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.

My training at MSC was vigorous but well worth it.

Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?

I think someone should attend MSC if they have recently graduated from college and have no previous sales experience like I did. It definitely has jump started my career at an early age and I could not be more grateful that I did it the way I did. I?m so excited that I?m still so young and get to work in my dream job freshly out of college.

Please briefly explain your job interview process with your hiring company.

My interview process was a little bit different than most. Originally, I got in contact with the company I am with because a neurosurgeon in my area knew I was trying to break into the field and gave me some of his contacts. Right away I received a response and I met with the area manager for coffee. This interview was very laid back and it was more about her getting to know me. I learned that she also had attended MSC and had done the spine program, so we had a lot in common. I went home and followed up and she told me to reach out to the owner of the distributorship to set up a second interview. This was another interview over coffee and he shared with me that there was technically no position open in my area, but they really liked me and were going to do everything they could to find a spot for me in the company. This interview was much like the interviews that Scott prepares us for at MSC. I was ready to answer all the situational questions and behavioral questions. My next meeting was with the other co-owner of the distributorship over coffee. This time I went over my business plan that I had made after MSC and he was very impressed. After this is where things took a little bit of a halt. I got a call from the owner saying that from a business stand-point it wouldn?t be smart to bring me on in Reno, but he would keep in contact if anything opened up. At this time, I started searching for other jobs and tried to keep my options open. Unexpectedly I received a call from the owner saying that there was a job opening about 2 hours from my hometown. We met for coffee the next day and I accepted the job offer. Although my interview process was frustrating at times, I am grateful looking back that I had made an impression on them because they remembered me. About a month had passed before I received a call with the job opportunity, but they had not forgotten my name. Someone in the company had left and they called me right away without opening up the interview process to potential candidates.

What do you know now that you wish you had known before entering the industry/attending Medical Sales College?

I wish I would have known that it?s okay to apply for jobs that you are ?underqualified? for. Most jobs require 2-5 years of sales experience but what I have learned is that if your resume stands out, you will most likely get a call back. Now this is your chance to blow them away during the interview and land the job.

What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?

My interviewing skills ? I worked as a server in college and that was my only real job. I had no idea how to prepare for an interview. MSC taught me how to be confident, how to write a solid business plan, and how to let my personality shine through.
