Student Testimonials
Tell me a little about your background.
Currently a medical assistant for a Gastroenterology office. Have a BA in child development, and briefly went back to nursing school while working as a patient care tech on the medical surgical floor and then the ER at Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Quit nursing school and managed a restaurant and bar called Barristers in Clayton Missouri for a year.
Why were you interested in pursuing medical sales as a career?
While managing the restaurant I missed the medical field and had been applying to medical sales positions. Re-connected with a friend Matthew Owens who had attended MSC and immediately went home, researched MSC, applied and was accepted.
What ultimately made you decide to attend?
I wanted to set myself apart from the other 200 applicants applying for the same medical sales jobs that I was applying for. I already had a BA and I had a nice chunk of clinical experience and knew a lot of medical terminology. I needed something to like MSC to show the hiring managers I was serious about pursing this as a career.
Please describe your training experience at Medical Sales College.
DC Hoffmann was my instructor and he did a great job. We really got a feel for the industry through his stories and experiences. The saw bone labs were helpful and the product presentations. Learning how to profile the products and surgeons was a useful skill we can all take with us into the industry.
Why should someone attend Medical Sales College?
How long did you try to get into the industry before attending MSC? What was that experience like?
About 6 months to a year.
Please briefly explain your job interview process with your hiring company.
What do you know now that you wish you had known before entering the industry/attending Medical Sales College?
No matter how prepared you are for the interview sometimes you just have to be the right fit for the team and that is something you cannot necessarily change. So even though you may be told no 100 times, it only takes that one person or company to say yes to get your foot in the door and then you are provided the opportunity to prove to everyone that is where you belong.
What was the most valuable thing you learned at Medical Sales College/What piece of training do you use the most in your day-to-day activities?
Honestly, just the interview prep. Dressing the part, practicing those interview questions, getting comfortable answering those questions as well as talking about yourself, your experiences, and your experience through MSC is helpful. Being able to articulate exactly what MSC taught you and what you personally can bring to the table. My favorite line to throw in is the fact that the company can hire someone who has more sales experience and for the first month, maybe the second month, at tops the third month that candidate may outshine me. However once I have gone through my business plan and had a chance to learn this role I will put in the work and start to outshine that person who had more sales experience than me because I have the drive to want to do better.
